A.J. Gaddis has been confirmed to return as Matt Smith in Doctor Who spinoff Doctor Who: The Third Doctor, but he won’t be the only one.
EW has confirmed that the Doctor will return as an alien for a third series, with Matt Smith as the new companion.
“He’s going to be the Doctor,” showrunner Steven Moffat said during the Television Critics Association press tour on Wednesday, according to TV Line.
“And we have to say, he’s the only other one we have for a long time.
But he’s got his own time machine, so he’s going back to his own universe and he’s in there in his own place.
He’s going off the planet in a spaceship, and he is a different person now.”
Moffat continued, “But he’s not the Doctor.
He has his own way of doing things.”
Smith is currently on the run from the Time Lord, and Doctor Who returns to BBC America on March 30th.
Doctor Who stars Anthony Hopkins, Sophie Aldred, Tom Baker, Karen Gillan, Billie Piper, and Michael Gambon will also be returning.
“It’s been fantastic,” Hopkins said.
“I’m very excited for it.
I’ve been doing it for the last five years.
I’m just thrilled it’s happening.
And I think it’s going really well.
I think there’s a really good balance, which is it’s a big, big, huge show.
And it’s very much a family show.
It’s like family.”
