How to get rid of acne at home

The Mayo Clinic has released a video highlighting the most common symptoms of acne, with some experts urging you to check with your doctor before taking the drastic step of getting rid of it.
“As a dermatologist, it’s not something that I am happy to get involved in,” said Dr. Jennifer Hauschka, a professor of dermatology at the Mayo Clinic.
“If we do have a diagnosis of acne that has been treated successfully, then I would recommend you not to treat it at all.
I don’t want to encourage it.”
The video, released Monday, outlines the common symptoms that cause acne in people who have had surgery or have had a skin graft.
They include:An increased flushing or burning of the skin.
An abnormal pimple growth or rash.
A skin inflammation that is painful or irritating.
Treatment for acne can involve topical medications and surgery to remove the underlying problem.
“I don’t think that’s always possible to go to the doctor for an acne diagnosis,” she said.
“I would encourage people to check in with their doctor before going any further with treatment.”
The Mayo Clinic recommends that acne treatment be limited to 3 to 4 weeks, with the hope that the symptoms will diminish over time.
The Mayo clinic also advises that you talk with your dermatologist about your specific symptoms and if they’re a side effect.
Hausechka also says that a patient with a “general” acne problem should be able to go without treatment.
The Mayo clinic has created a website that will allow people to report common acne symptoms.
The site also includes a list of dermatologists who can diagnose acne.
Huschka is not the only expert who has expressed caution about treating acne at the home.
“It is important that people with acne be given the opportunity to discuss their condition, discuss any potential side effects of treatment, and also to discuss the potential consequences of not treating acne,” said the Mayo clinic’s Dr. William McKean.
“You may want to discuss your symptoms with your physician to determine what treatment options are available to you.”
